TGIF

"Do you think they fit?"
"Hmm. What sounds good--fish or chicken?"

I don't know about you, but I'm glad it's Friday! Here are a couple of photos of Micah during his evening playtime. He loves to play with shoes, which I try to discourage since he usually ends up trying to them in his mouth, (yuck!)I guess that leather feels good on his gums! But this photo was too cute. The second one is of him playing in the "Micah cabinet" in the kitchen. The video is just some general cuteness. Hope you all have a good weekend.

First Steps?

When I picked Micah up from daycare yesterday, the teacher said he had taken several steps unassisted--toward the toys, of course. My first reaction was "how great!" but I feel kinda sad that I had to hear about it secondhand. Dan says it doesn't count as his "first" since we weren't there to witness it. So for now, we'll keep it hush hush. We also got his new carseat in the mail, so we'll be switching over to that this weekend. I'm sure he'll be much more comfortable in this one since his little legs are dangling over the side of the one we currently have! We also ordered two gates--one for the laundry room (the kitty's box is in there and apparently, irresistable to babies) and one for the hallway (so we can keep him in the living room while we're in there eating dinner, etc.). Well, Dan set up the gate in the laundry room and stepped back to watch what would happen. Micah walked right up to the thing, surveyed the situation, and promptly ripped it right down and crawled over it. I think we're going to need a bigger gate!

Dan's first day of classes went well. I guess he had a few more students than expected in the history of musical theatre class--the class was listed in both theater and music so he had students from both. But everyone seemed on the ball. We went to a cookout at the dept. chair's house last night for all theatre faculty and students. It was nice to meet all the kids--hopefully we can find a few babysitters in the group. Today will be his first day to teach the directing class.

We're having a the first days of class at HSU too so since I'm in the community and university relations class. I'm required to wear a t-shirt that says "Henderson: Ask Me" and stand out on the quad. I'm supposed to be able to tell people where poli sci is or how to get to the car decal office? Yeah. Maybe I can get a shirt that says "Henderson: Ask Somebody Else." Oh those poor freshmen.

Bookworm

Micah really likes his Leap Pad from Aunt Helen--here he is "reading" his alphabet. For those who don't know, Leap Pad is an interactive toy. You buy special books to put on the pad. When you turn the pad on it narrates the book and kids can press any picture in the book and it will make a sound, play educational games with them, and a whole bunch more. It has settings for younger and older children. Micah likes the first setting which just has sounds and a few words.
The page in the picture just has the alphabet. When you push each letter it makes that sound and plays games with him. The second picture is Micah brushing his teeth after dinner. He has nine now! I'm still trying to get a shot of them, but he hasn't quite learned to smile in that way yet.

Playtime with Daddy

Dan and Micah like to have playtime at the end of the day. Here are a few photos of them "playing" basketball (yes, he's holding it by himself) and Micah's favorite--swinging upside down! He's over his cold now and back at daycare--we're still working on that whole 'nap' thing over there. I think M is so excited about all the toys and the other kids that he forgets to close his eyes! In other news, Dan starts teaching his first classes tomorrow so keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

More from Delaware

Aunt Evy takes a picture of Micah
Uncle Frank helps Micah stand up

These are a couple more photos from the Delaware trip back in July. I just have so many, I don't want to leave anyone out! I promise pictures of the house next week and I'll try to take some of the campus here today.

Where does it go?

Laundry day
John and Becky with Micah

Most people can't remember this far back, but I'm sure at one time, we were all fascinated by the drain in the tub or the sink. I mean, where does all that water go? Some kids are frightened that they will be dragged down the hole too, but I think Micah's curiosity covers over most fears he has. When we brought out the shop vac for the first time, he stared and stared. Then he started following it around. Then, he tried to stick his hand up to the end to see how it worked. He just loves it. This video in the tub just illustrates the point. We go through this every night!

In the photo above, Micah is helping me with the laundry. I had dumped the clothes out on the couch to fold and put back in the basket. He came over, explored every part of the basket, put a few pair of underwear in his mouth (clean ones, of course!) and then started dropping socks and such in the basket. I was so proud of my little helper! I'm sure he was thinking why is mom going crazy over a sock?

The next photo is a shout out to my friends John and Becky Lawrence (and a certain baby Lawrence on the way :-)) John is currently running for PA rep, so any of you people out there in his district--vote!

More Delaware pics

Micah with "Triple G" (Great Grampy George)
Sleepy Micah and Grammy on the porch swing
Having fun with Pop Pop

Above are a few more pictures from our trip to Delaware at the end of July. This video was taken two weeks ago in our dining area--Micah is learning to eat crackers and rice puffs. He seems to favor his left hand for getting them in his mouth. Unfortunately, he's got a bad cold or virus and had to stay home from daycare today. We were able to find a student at the school where Dan teaches who could watch him at home. Hopefully, he'll be feeling better soon.

Finally!

Micah with Grandma and Grandpa
Where is that water going??

I know some of you have been anxious for the blog to start up again. I've just gotten access to the Internet again so here's a few photos to wet your whistle. We are finally here in Arkadelphia! I started my job on Monday so now I'm wrapping up my first week. It seems to be going well so far and I'm looking forward to getting started on some media buys and other projects. We'll be shooting commercials soon! Dan is going over to work every afternoon to work on his syllabi. Classes start at the end of the month! Micah, who is going to daycare half days this week before starting fulltime next week, is just on the verge of taking those first steps. He now has six teeth, with two more on the way and as always, is the epitome of cuteness :-) Overall, he did so well with all the travel, the move and the transition. He woke up almost every night the first week ro so we were here, but now he's sleeping like a pro. He still hasn't napped at daycare yet, but I think with time he'll adjust well. We enjoyed our visit with Mom and Dad Inouye the week we moved--I don't think we'd be as settled as we are now if it weren't for them. It's hard to get things done with a 10-month old underfoot! We had no AC the day we moved to Arkadelphia and it was over 100 degrees! But the house stayed cool enough for us to get some things done before the air kicked on. The four of us did a big cleaning job on the house and got most things put away before they had to go back to WI. I'll try to post some pictures of the house and of course, some more of Micah and our trips to DE and MA soon. Bye for now!
